Hi, I am hoping for a little guidance on the best approach to take. Is this a case that Synology did not test the newer drive on the older NAS, or is there a potential issue that could lead to data loss? Here are the two 4TB drives listed as compatible with my 412+ include: WD40EFRX - 68N32N0 WD40EFRX - 68WT0N0 Do I need to return the WD40EFZX drives and buy WD40EFRX? Thanks! The WD40EFZX - 68AWUN0 is compatible with some models from the 21, 20, 19, 18, 17, and 16 series. My main question is how risky is it to use the WD40EFZX - 68AWUN0 drives in my NAS when they are not listed as compatible? My 412+ is part of Synology's "12 series". Looks like it is mirroring the empty sectors from the other healthy drive. I started the repair process and even though I emptied the volume before all of this started, it is taking a long time to repair the disk. I dug a little deeper and learned that the specific drives I purchased are compatible with many Synology NAS products, but not the 412+. I went and updated the list and the warning remained. DSM warned me that my drive was not on the compatibility list. I started the process of replacing the failed drive, pulled it out, swapped in the new one, and clicked repair. I went out and purchased two 4TB Red drives, specifically WD40EFZX - 68AWUN0 to not only replace the failed drive but increase the size of Volume 2 from 2TB to 4TB. One of the two drives was failing and needed to be replaced. Volume 2 had two WD 2TB Red drives configured in Raid1. In summary, I have a Synology DS412+ configured with two storage volumes. This is a follow-up to my earlier question "Need Recommendations for Replacing Failing NAS Hard Drive".
