It's just that his beliefs can't sustain him alone or protect him from all the trauma he's experiencing. All of it points to the idea that his beliefs are a big reason why he's fighting. Consider the conversations he has with Quattro about the nature of the war and the oppression of the Spacenoids, the infamous theater scene at the end of Zeta, and his battle cry as he takes out Scirocco. In the very first episode, he is crusading against the Titans on an ideological basis, not purely just because he's an angsty teen. If any of these policies are violated, moderators may have to call in a colony drop on your post/account.
